I’ll always remember the first time I tried this delicious swiss green bean casserole! I was visiting Peter and his family for the holidays early in our dating relationship and my Mother-in-law made this delicious casserole. I’m pretty sure I told her that it was the best green bean casserole that I had ever had and I still think that till this day! I immediately jotted down the recipe and have made this casserole many times since.
What makes this green bean casserole so delicious is the combination of flavors and the swiss cheese that you sprinkle in between layers and on top! It’s truly unlike any other green bean casserole that I’ve had before and I’m certain you and your family will love it as much as we do!
I’m also excited to be teaming up with some gal pals to bring you The Ultimate Friendsgiving Menu! We’ve each created one of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes to share with you. Swiss Green Bean Casserole
- 2 cans of WHOLE green beans (drained)
- 8 ounces of shredded swiss cheese
- 2 cups of sour cream
- 1 tablespoon of minced onions
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons of flour
- 1 teaspoon of dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- a dash of curry powder
Preheat oven to 350. In a saucepan, melt the butter on low. Once butter has melted, slowly stir in flour, minced onions, dry mustard, salt, pepper, and a dash of curry powder. Mix together and then stir in the sour cream. Continue to stir ingredients on low heat until the butter, seasonings, and sour cream are well blended.
Layer 1 full drained can of whole green beans in the bottom of your dish. Then sprinkle half of the swiss cheese on top of the green beans. Next you will spread half of the sour cream mixture on top of the cheese (*the mixture is thick so you have to just work it around until it covers the green beans). You will then repeat the layers with the second can of drained green beans followed by the remaining swiss cheese and remaining sour cream mixture.
I did not top my casserole this time, however you may top it with plain corn flakes or even crispy onions. If you wish to leave a “topping” off, you can do that as well.
Bake the casserole uncovered at 350 for 45 minutes…serve and enjoy!
I’m certain you will love this swiss green bean casserole so if you do decide to try it, please let me know what you think!
